Iveco 016A – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Bosch EDC: Injector 1 Control Circuit Malfunction

This code indicates that the engine control module has detected an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to battery—in the wiring or the solenoid of the fuel injector for cylinder 1.

   Check for Bank-Wide Faults: Scan for additional codes. If codes for injectors 2 and 3 are also present, the issue is likely in the shared wiring (Bank 1) rather than a single injector.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness, pigtail, and connector at Injector 1 for chafing, heat damage, loose pins, or poor contact.

   Injector Resistance Test: Disconnect the Injector 1 connector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the injector terminals to check for an open circuit or dead short.

   Harness Continuity Test: Test the wiring harness from the injector connector back to the EDC module for continuity, as well as for shorts to ground or shorts to battery.

   EDC Driver Test: If the injector and wiring both test perfectly, check if the EDC module has a failed internal injector driver (shorted to ground or open).

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the vehicle's batteries to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Gain Access

   Remove any necessary engine covers or valve covers to access the fuel injectors and their wiring harness.

   Address Wiring Issues

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken wire or damaged connector, cut back the damaged section and splice in a new injector pigtail connector, or replace the entire injector wiring harness. Ensure all connections are sealed against moisture and oil.

   Replace the Injector

   If the injector failed the resistance test, remove the high-pressure fuel line and hold-down clamp, and extract Injector 1. Install the new injector with new seals/O-rings.

   Program the Injector

   If the injector was replaced, use a diagnostic scan tool to program the new IMA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) code into the EDC module so the ECU can properly balance fuel delivery.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reconnect the wiring harness, reinstall any removed covers, and reconnect the batteries. Clear the 016A fault code with a scan tool, start the engine, and verify that the code does not return and the engine runs smoothly.
