Iveco 017D – Engine Control Unit (ECU): General Fuel Air Combustion System Malfunction
Issue description
This code indicates that the fuel injection system is not functioning properly and the engine is unable to maintain the correct fuel-to-air mixture for optimal combustion. The primary underlying cause is typically a malfunction of the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, or a fault within the fuel injection system itself.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Iveco Daily
- UAZ Patriot
- Case 580SN
- Case SR210
- Case SV300
- Case TV380
- Case Farmall series
Check the cause
Use an OBD2/diagnostic scan tool to read the live data for the Intake Air Temperature and Manifold Absolute Pressure. Look for implausible readings (e.g., temperature reading -40°C or pressure stuck at a fixed value).
Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the MAP/IAT sensor (often a combined T-MAP sensor on the intake manifold) for corrosion, chafing, or loose pins.
Check the intake tract for boost leaks, blockages, or heavy carbon/soot buildup that could be clogging the sensor port.
If the air sensors are functioning correctly, verify fuel rail pressure and injector operation, as the code can also be triggered by a direct fuel injection system fault.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Sensor
Find the MAP/IAT sensor, which is mounted directly on the intake manifold or the charge air pipe leading to the manifold.
Removal
Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor to the manifold. Carefully pull the sensor straight out.
Inspection
Check the manifold port for excessive soot. If heavily clogged, the intake manifold may require cleaning.
Installation
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor lightly with clean engine oil. Insert the new sensor into the manifold port and secure it with the retaining bolt(s). Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks into place.
Completion
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic scanner to clear the 017D fault code. Test drive the machine to ensure the code does not return.
