Issue description
The engine is running in a lean condition (too much air, not enough fuel) even when the engine management system is commanding maximum fuel enrichment to compensate. This is frequently triggered by an implausible signal from the Lambda (Oxygen) sensor circuit.

Check the cause
Lambda Sensor Circuitry: Inspect the sensor's wiring harness, connectors, and ground cables for corrosion, melting, or breaks.
Fuel Supply Pressure: Check the low-pressure and high-pressure fuel lines. Verify that the high-pressure fuel pump is delivering adequate rail pressure.
Intake/Vacuum Leaks: Inspect the intake tract for unmetered air leaks that could cause a genuine lean condition.
Fuel Filter: Ensure the fuel filter is not clogged, which would restrict fuel flow and cause a lean state under heavy load.
Repair steps
Scan and Verify
Connect a diagnostic tool (such as Delphi or Iveco E.A.S.Y.) and confirm 018C is present in the EDC module.
Resolve Wiring Faults
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring to the Lambda sensor, repair the harness and ensure a solid 5V reference and ground.
Replace the Lambda Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the sensor is outputting an implausible signal (causing the ECU to falsely read or fail to correct a lean condition), remove the old Lambda sensor from the exhaust and install a new OEM replacement.
Address Fuel Delivery (If Applicable)
If the sensor is reading correctly and the engine is genuinely starving for fuel, replace the fuel filter. If rail pressure remains low, the high-pressure fuel pump may require replacement.
Clear Codes and Test
Clear the EDC fault codes. Start the engine and let it reach operating temperature. Test drive the vehicle to ensure the red EDC light remains off and the engine revs freely past 2,000 RPM.
