Iveco 01A8 – Engine ECU: Maximum allowable temperature of the urea dosing valve
Issue description
The internal temperature sensor of the urea dosing valve has detected that the unit is exceeding its safe operating threshold. The system logs this code and halts injection to prevent the valve from melting and to stop the urea from crystallizing and clogging the nozzle.

- Iveco Daily
- Iveco EuroCargo
- Heavy/medium trucks and buses
Check the cause
Check for upstream faults: Ensure there are no active faults for exhaust gas temperatures (EGT), DPF pressures, or EGR systems that could artificially overheat the dosing valve.
Inspect the cooling circuit: Check the coolant lines or urea return lines routed to the dosing valve for pinched lines, blocked ports, or a failed coolant control valve.
Visual inspection: Inspect the dosing valve on the exhaust decomposition pipe for melted wiring, external leaks, or heavy white urea crystallization.
Perform a Urea Dosing Valve Check (UDVC): Using a diagnostic tool, remove the injector, place it in a beaker, and actuate a dosing test to check for clogs or internal damage.
Check sensor data: View live data for the dosing valve temperature. If it reads impossibly high or hot when cold, the internal sensor has failed.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the ignition and wait for the SCR system to complete its purge cycle (usually takes 2–5 minutes). This pulls urea back into the tank and depressurizes the lines.
Disconnect the Valve
Unplug the electrical connector from the AdBlue dosing valve. Disconnect the urea supply line and the cooling lines (coolant or urea return, depending on the system). Have a catch pan ready for minor fluid spills.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the dosing valve from the exhaust decomposition pipe.
Clean the Port
Inspect the mounting port on the exhaust pipe. Carefully scrape away any crystallized AdBlue buildup to ensure the new injector seats properly and is not immediately obstructed.
Install the New Valve
Fit the replacement dosing valve using a new OEM gasket/O-ring. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
Reconnect Lines
Reattach the cooling lines, urea supply line, and the electrical connector.
Prime and Test
Connect your diagnostic tool, clear the 01A8 fault code from the Engine ECU, and run a system prime command to bleed air from the AdBlue lines.
Verification
Perform a forced SCR test or a road test while monitoring the dosing valve temperature via live data to ensure it remains within the normal operating range.
