Iveco 01C3 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): CAN bus: no answer from the tachograph

Communication failure where the control module is not receiving the expected data signals from the vehicle's digital or analog tachograph over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus.

   Check the power supply (Terminal 15 / Ignition and Terminal 30 / Battery) and ground circuits at the tachograph unit

   Test the CAN High (CAN H) and CAN Low (CAN L) communication lines between the tachograph and the Engine ECU for open circuits, shorts to ground, shorts to voltage, or high resistance

   Inspect the pins and connectors at both the tachograph and the Engine ECU for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress

   Verify the integrity of the tachograph speed sensor (pulser) on the transmission and its wiring

   Resolve Power Issues

   If the tachograph is not powering on, replace blown fuses or repair the power/ground supply wires.

   Repair CAN Wiring

   If continuity tests reveal a break or short in the CAN bus lines between the tachograph and the Engine ECU, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Clean/Replace Connectors

   Clean any corroded terminals with electrical contact cleaner and ensure a tight pin fit.

   Replace the Tachograph

   If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, the internal CAN transceiver in the tachograph has likely failed. Replace the tachograph unit.

   Calibration

   If the tachograph is replaced, the new unit must be legally calibrated and paired with the vehicle's speed sensor by a certified tachograph center.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 01C3 fault code from the Engine ECU and test drive the vehicle to ensure CAN communication has been restored.
