Iveco 01E7 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Controller: voltage type 2 for sensor power supply out of range
Issue description
The 5-volt reference circuit #2 is operating outside of its acceptable voltage parameters. This is almost always caused by a short to ground, a short to battery voltage, or a sensor on that specific circuit drawing too much current and pulling the reference voltage down.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Iveco Daily
- Iveco Stralis
- Iveco Trakker
- Iveco EuroCargo
- Iveco Astra
- UAZ Patriot
Check the cause
Inspect the ECU connectors and engine harness for water intrusion
Perform a Sensor Isolation Test (Drop Test): Monitor the 5V reference voltage on the Type 2 circuit and unplug sensors on this circuit one by one (e.g., Fuel Rail Pressure, MAP/Boost, Accelerator Pedal) to see if voltage returns to normal
Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, melting, or pinching against the engine block that could short the 5V wire to ground
Check the ECU pins for corrosion or bent terminals
Repair steps
Disconnect Batteries
Before repairing wiring or replacing components, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Dry/Clean Connectors
If water ingress was found during diagnostics, use compressed air and electrical contact cleaner to thoroughly dry the ECU and sensor connectors. Apply dielectric grease to the seals to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Repair Wiring
If a short to ground was found in the harness, cut out the damaged section of wire and solder/heat-shrink a new section of wire.
Replace Shorted Sensor
If the isolation test identified a shorted sensor (e.g., the fuel pressure sensor), remove it and install a new OEM replacement. Torque to factory specifications.
ECU Replacement
If the wiring harness is perfectly intact, all sensors are unplugged, and the ECU is still failing to output 5 volts on the Type 2 circuit, the internal voltage regulator inside the EDC module has burned out. The ECU will need to be sent out for board-level repair or replaced and reprogrammed by an Iveco dealer.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the batteries, turn the ignition on, and use an OBD2/Iveco diagnostic tool to clear the 01E7 fault code. Verify the code does not return upon startup.
