Iveco 01F2 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Incorrect signal in the soot filter clogging sensor circuit

Issue description

The engine control module is receiving an implausible, erratic, or out-of-range voltage signal from the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) differential pressure sensor. This prevents the vehicle from accurately determining the DPF's clogging level, which often prevents automatic DPF regeneration and can force the vehicle into limp mode.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the two rubber/silicone pressure hoses connecting the sensor to the DPF exhaust pipes for blockages (soot/carbon buildup), melting from exhaust heat, cracks, or loose clamps.

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at the DPF pressure sensor for corrosion, water ingress, or loose pins.

  3. Trace the wiring harness back toward the ECU to check for chafing or broken wires.

  4. Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving a steady 5V reference voltage and a solid ground from the ECU.

  5. Connect a diagnostic scan tool and view the live data for the DPF differential pressure. With the engine off and ignition on, the pressure should read 0 mbar. If it reads a high pressure value, the sensor is internally shorted or skewed.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the DPF differential pressure sensor.

    It is typically mounted on the chassis rail or firewall near the DPF assembly, connected to the exhaust by two hoses.

  3. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor.

  4. Release the hose clamps and carefully pull the upstream and downstream pressure hoses off the sensor nipples.

    Note: If the hoses are brittle or clogged, replace them now.

  5. Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket and remove it.

  6. Install the new sensor and secure the mounting bolts.

  7. Reconnect the pressure hoses, ensuring you do not swap the upstream and downstream lines. Secure them with clamps.

  8. Plug in the electrical connector.

  9. Reconnect the battery.

  10. Connect a diagnostic scan tool, clear the 01F2 fault code, and perform a "DPF Sensor Replacement" adaptation/reset if required by the ECU.

  11. Start the engine and verify the live pressure data is now reading correctly.

    If the DPF became heavily loaded with soot while the sensor was broken, you may need to initiate a forced DPF regeneration via the scan tool.
