Iveco 01F4 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Low signal in the soot filter clogged sensor circuit
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit is receiving a voltage signal from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Differential Pressure Sensor that is below the expected operating range. A low signal typically points to an electrical fault (short to ground, open circuit), a failed sensor, or physically damaged/melted pressure hoses.

Check the cause
Visual Hose Inspection: Trace the two rubber/metal pressure hoses from the DPF housing up to the differential pressure sensor. Look for melted sections, splits, or heavy soot blockages (melted hoses are a highly common cause).
Wiring and Connector Check: Inspect the sensor's electrical connector for water ingress, corrosion, or backed-out pins. Check the wiring harness for chafing.
Voltage Test: Verify that the sensor is receiving a 5V reference signal and a solid ground from the ECU.
Manometer Verification: If the wiring and hoses are intact, use a physical manometer to bypass the OBD system and measure the actual exhaust backpressure. Compare this to the live data on your diagnostic tool to confirm if the sensor has failed internally.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Locate the DPF differential pressure sensor (usually bolted to the side of the engine block, near the firewall, or directly above the DPF).
Disconnect the Sensor
Release the locking tab and unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Mark the Hoses
Mark the two pressure hoses (High/Inlet and Low/Outlet) so they are not swapped during reinstallation.
Remove the Sensor
Unclip the hose retention clamps and pull the hoses off the sensor nipples. Remove the Torx screw or mounting bolt holding the sensor to its bracket, and remove the sensor.
Hose Replacement (If necessary)
If the hoses were found to be melted or blocked with soot during diagnostics, replace them now.
Install the New Sensor
Mount the new sensor to the bracket and tighten the retaining bolt. Reconnect the pressure hoses to their correct ports and secure the clamps.
Reconnect Electricals
Plug the electrical connector back in until it clicks. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Test
Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 01F4 fault code. Start the engine and monitor the live DPF pressure data. If soot accumulation is high due to the vehicle being driven with the fault, initiate a forced DPF regeneration.
