Iveco 01F5 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): High signal level of soot filter clogged sensor

Issue description

The DPF differential pressure sensor is sending a voltage signal to the computer that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This indicates that the DPF is severely clogged with soot or ash, there is a short to voltage in the sensor's electrical circuit, or the sensor itself has failed internally.

Check the cause

  1. Connect an OBD2 diagnostic scan tool and view live data for DPF Differential Pressure with ignition ON and engine OFF (should read near 0 mbar; high reading indicates faulty sensor or wiring)

  2. Inspect the 3-pin wiring harness and connector to the differential pressure sensor for chafed wires, melted insulation, or corrosion (short to power)

  3. Inspect rubber/metal hoses connecting the DPF to the pressure sensor for blockages (soot buildup), kinks, or melted sections

  4. Use the scan tool to check calculated DPF soot/ash accumulation to see if the filter is genuinely blocked

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Turn off the ignition, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the DPF differential pressure sensor. It is typically mounted on the chassis frame rail or firewall near the DPF, connected to the exhaust by two hoses.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

    Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove Hoses

    Note which hose connects to the upstream (high pressure) port and which connects to the downstream (low pressure) port. Disconnect the hoses from the sensor.

  5. Clear the Lines

    Disconnect the hoses from the DPF side and blow them out with compressed air to ensure they are not clogged with soot. (Do not blow compressed air into the sensor itself).

  6. Swap the Sensor

    Unbolt the old sensor from its mounting bracket and install the new OEM sensor.

  7. Reassembly

    Reconnect the pressure hoses (ensuring correct orientation) and plug in the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery.

  8. Calibration & Clearing

    Connect a diagnostic scan tool. Clear the 01F5 fault code. You must perform a 'DPF Pressure Sensor Replacement' adaptation/calibration via the scan tool so the ECU learns the new sensor's zero-value.

  9. Regeneration

    If the DPF soot load is high, initiate a static/forced DPF regeneration using the scan tool.
