Iveco 01F6 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Exhaust temperature sensor fault to converter
Issue description
Malfunction, implausible signal, or circuit failure of the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor located upstream of the catalytic converter or Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool to the EDC and view the live exhaust gas temperature data. If the temperature reads an implausible fixed value (e.g., pegged at a maximum limit or showing 630°C on a cold engine), the sensor or its wiring is shorted/open.
Inspect the sensor wiring harness and the 2-pin connector. Look for melted wires, heat damage, or loose connections caused by vibration.
On vehicles with multiple EGT sensors (e.g., upstream and downstream of the DPF), verify that the connectors have not been accidentally reversed during previous maintenance (connectors are often color-coded).
Disconnect the sensor and test the resistance across the pins with a multimeter. An open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short indicates a failed internal sensing element.
Repair steps
Prepare vehicle
Ensure the vehicle is turned off and the exhaust system has completely cooled to prevent severe burns.
Locate the sensor
Locate the faulty EGT sensor on the exhaust pipe, specifically the one positioned upstream of the catalytic converter or DPF.
Disconnect wiring
Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector linking the sensor to the engine wiring harness.
Remove the sensor
Using a 17mm spanner/wrench, carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust bung. Note: Exhaust sensors are prone to seizing. You may need to apply penetrating oil and let it sit before attempting removal to avoid stripping the threads.
Install the new sensor
Apply a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-coated). Thread it in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it securely with the 17mm wrench.
Reconnect wiring
Plug the 2-pin connector back into the wiring harness, ensuring it clicks into place. Route the wire safely away from direct contact with the hot exhaust pipe.
Clear codes and verify
Turn the ignition on, connect your diagnostic tool to the OBD/Iveco port, and clear the 01F6 fault code from the EDC memory. Start the engine and verify that the live temperature data now reads ambient/normal exhaust temperatures.
