Iveco 01F7 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Exhaust Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction

The ECU detects an open circuit, short circuit, or an implausible electrical signal from the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor, which is used to monitor exhaust gases to control DPF regeneration and protect components from overheating.

   Visually inspect the sensor wiring harness and connectors for melted wires, chafing against the chassis, or moisture ingress. Ensure the wiring is routed safely away from direct exhaust heat.

   Verify connectors have not been accidentally reversed during previous maintenance (e.g., mixing up the brown/yellow connector with the black one).

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool to monitor live EGT data for impossible values (e.g., stuck at extreme temperature when cold) or wild fluctuations.

   Unplug the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter to check for an open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short.

   Locate the Sensor

   Identify the correct EGT sensor triggering the fault. For 01F7, this is typically the sensor located upstream of the DPF or oxidation catalyst.

   Disconnect the Battery

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery before working on ECU-monitored electrical circuits.

   Disconnect the Wiring

   Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector for the EGT sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Use a specialized slotted sensor socket or a suitable wrench to carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust bung. Penetrating oil and careful leverage are recommended to prevent breaking the sensor off in the exhaust pipe.

   Install the New Sensor

   Apply a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if not pre-applied). Thread it in by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

   Route the Wiring

   Reconnect the electrical plug. Ensure the wiring harness is clipped securely into its heat shields and routed away from the exhaust pipe to prevent repeat failures.

   Clear Codes and Verify

   Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 01F7 fault code. Start the engine and monitor the live EGT data during warm-up to confirm the signal is stable and responds smoothly to heat. Perform a test drive or a forced DPF regeneration if required.
