Iveco 01FB – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Management System: Neutralizer efficiency below the permissible norm

Exhaust aftertreatment code indicating that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalytic converter is failing to reduce Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions to acceptable levels.

   Check for other active fault codes related to NOx sensors, exhaust temperature sensors, or the AdBlue/DEF system first

   Verify AdBlue/DEF fluid quality and level (low-quality, diluted, or contaminated fluid is a primary cause)

   Inspect the AdBlue/DEF dosing system to ensure the DEF injector/doser is not clogged and is spraying the correct amount of fluid

   Check for exhaust leaks upstream of the SCR catalyst

   Evaluate upstream engine components (EGR system, turbocharger, fuel injectors, and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) for failures that can cause indigestions of foreign objects

   Test NOx sensors to verify the accuracy of the upstream and downstream readings

   Correct Upstream Issues

   Diagnose and repair any base engine, fuel system, or upstream exhaust issues identified during the diagnostic checks.

   Address Fluid Issues

   If DEF contamination or poor quality is suspected, drain the DEF tank completely and refill it with fresh, high-quality AdBlue/DEF.

   Service the Dosing System

   Clean or replace the AdBlue/DEF dosing injector if it is failing to deliver fluid properly.

   Replace Faulty Sensors

   If diagnostic testing proves the NOx sensors are reading inaccurately, replace them.

   Retest the System

   Clear the fault codes and perform a test drive or a forced SCR efficiency test using a diagnostic tool to see if the efficiency improves.

   Replace the SCR Catalyst

   If the DEF system, sensors, and engine are working perfectly but the 01FB code returns, the SCR catalytic converter substrate is likely compromised (coated, poisoned, or degraded). In this case, the SCR muffler assembly must be replaced.
