Iveco 022E – Engine ECU (Electronic Diesel Control / EDC): Faulty Pump Relay Control Circuit Malfunction

The engine management system has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit or short circuit) in the wiring or the relay itself that controls the electric fuel lift pump (booster pump).

   Locate the fuel pump relay in the vehicle's power distribution/relay box and check for signs of heat damage, melted plastic, or corroded pins.

   Use a multimeter to test the control circuit wiring between the Engine ECU and the relay socket for continuity, open circuits, or short circuits to the onboard network.

   Use a professional diagnostic scanner to verify if the code is active or stored, as complex codes may require dealer-level diagnostics to clear or test the circuit actively.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Remove relay

   Access the main relay/fuse panel and remove the electric fuel pump relay.

   Repair wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or break in the wiring harness between the ECU and the relay socket, repair the damaged section of the wire.

   Replace relay

   If the wiring is intact, the relay itself has likely failed internally. Install a new replacement fuel pump relay into the socket.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear fault code

   Connect a diagnostic scanner to the OBD/diagnostic port and clear the 022E fault code.

   Verify repair

   Cycle the ignition to the 'ON' position and listen for the electric booster pump priming. Start the engine to ensure the code does not return.
