025C

Iveco 025C – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Incorrect fuel injection time for cylinder injector 2

Issue description

The engine control system has detected an anomaly in the injection timing or duration for the fuel injector located in cylinder #2. The underlying condition is usually a mechanical failure of the injector itself, a clogged nozzle, a failing injector solenoid, or a wiring issue preventing the ECU from firing the injector at the precise required microsecond.

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco Trakker
  • Iveco EuroCargo
  • Iveco Daily

Check the cause

  1. Scan for Associated Codes: Check if there are global fuel rail pressure codes (e.g., 0136, 0251) or injector circuit faults (e.g., 0162 - Injector 2 control circuit fault). If circuit codes are present, the issue is likely electrical rather than mechanical.

  2. Wiring & Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the cylinder 2 injector. Look for chafing, oil intrusion in the connector, or high resistance.

  3. Cylinder Contribution Test: Use an Iveco diagnostic scanner (such as E.A.S.Y.) to run a cylinder balance/contribution test to verify that cylinder 2 is underperforming compared to the others.

  4. Resistance Test: Measure the resistance across the injector #2 solenoid pins to ensure it falls within OEM specifications.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access

Remove the engine valve cover / acoustic cover to gain access to the fuel rail and injectors.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the cylinder 2 injector.

  4. Remove Fuel Lines

Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to injector 2. Note: Cap the open rail port immediately to prevent dirt contamination.

  5. Extract Injector

Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

  6. Clean the Bore

Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head, ensuring no carbon debris falls into the combustion chamber.

  7. Installation

Install the new injector. Always use a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings.

  8. Reassembly

Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the specific OEM torque rating. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line (it is highly recommended to use a new line to ensure a proper seal) and the electrical connector.

  9. Reinstall Covers

Replace the valve cover and reconnect the battery.

  10. ECU Coding

Using a diagnostic scan tool, program the new injector's IMA code (Injector Quantity Adjustment code, usually printed on the top of the new injector) into the Engine ECU. Failure to code the injector will result in rough running and further fault codes (such as code 017F: incorrect recording of IMA codes).

  11. Clear & Test

Clear the 025C fault code and test drive the vehicle to verify the repair.
