Iveco 025E – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Incorrect fuel injection time for cylinder injector 6

The engine control module has detected that the fuel injector for cylinder 6 is not firing at the correct time, is staying open too long, or is failing to deliver the expected fuel volume during its commanded window.

   Check for accompanying codes related to fuel rail pressure, wiring faults (e.g., open/short circuits on injector 6), or misfires.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at injector 6 for corrosion, oil intrusion, or chafing. Test the resistance of the injector solenoid using a multimeter.

   Verify injector trim codes using a diagnostic scan tool to ensure the IMA (calibration) code programmed into the ECU for cylinder 6 matches the code physically printed on the injector.

   Run an electronic cylinder balance/contribution test via the diagnostic tool to confirm cylinder 6 is underperforming.

   Preparation

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery. Clean the area around the valve cover and injectors thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the engine.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine cover or valve cover (depending on the specific engine model) to access the fuel injectors.

   Disconnect Lines

   Disconnect the electrical connector from injector 6. Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the injector. (Note: OEM guidelines often recommend replacing high-pressure lines once they have been removed).

   Remove the Injector

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp or retaining bolt. Carefully extract the injector. If it is seized by carbon buildup, a specialized injector puller or slide hammer may be required.

   Clean the Bore

   Thoroughly clean the injector bore and the seating surface in the cylinder head. Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed and not stuck at the bottom of the bore.

   Install the New Injector

   Fit a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings to the replacement injector. Lubricate the O-rings lightly with clean engine oil and seat the injector into the bore.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the manufacturer's exact specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector. Reinstall the valve cover.

   ECU Coding

   Using a compatible diagnostic scan tool, enter the new injector's calibration code (IMA code, usually found on the top of the injector) into the Engine ECU. Failure to do this will result in the 025E code returning.

   Bleed and Test

   Prime the fuel system, start the engine, check for leaks, and clear the fault codes.
