Iveco 027C – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): Controller: Malfunction channel (driver) 2 injector driver

Indicates a failure in the internal driver circuit (channel 2) within the engine controller that is responsible for firing the number 2 fuel injector. This can be caused by an internal failure of the driver component itself or triggered by an external short circuit in the injector or its wiring.

   Check the wiring harness between the ECU (Connector A) and injector 2 for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power.

   Test the number 2 fuel injector for internal shorts. A shorted injector can overload and burn out the ECU's internal driver.

   Use an oscilloscope to check the comparative waveforms between the cylinders at the ECU output. If the waveform for cylinder 2 is missing or incorrect while others are normal, the internal ECU driver is confirmed faulty.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery.

   Disconnect wiring harness

   Disconnect the injector wiring harness from the injectors and the ECU (Connector A).

   Repair wiring or replace injector

   Repair any damaged wiring or replace the number 2 fuel injector if it failed the resistance/short test.

   Remove ECU

   If the wiring and injector are healthy but the fault persists (or the oscilloscope confirmed no output), the ECU must be removed.

   Repair or replace ECU

   Send the ECU to a specialized repair facility to have the internal injector driver (MOSFET/Tricore MCU components) desoldered and replaced. Alternatively, replace the entire ECU with a new or donor unit.

   Program replacement ECU

   If using a replacement ECU, the immobilizer data and injector IMA codes must be cloned or programmed to the new unit.

   Refit ECU and clear codes

   Refit the ECU, reconnect the harnesses, and clear the fault codes.

   Verify repair

   Start the engine and verify that the misfire is gone and the red EDC warning light remains off.
