Iveco 02B4 – Engine Control Unit (EDC / ECM): CAN-bus: no answer from trip computer or test equipment

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, the Engine Control Unit is not receiving the expected periodic data messages from the Body Computer (BCM) or the instrument cluster's trip computer.

   Check for an aftermarket radio installation; ensure CAN-bus wires are disconnected from non-OEM units to prevent network interference

   Perform a CAN-bus resistance test between CAN-High and CAN-Low at the diagnostic port or EDC connector (nominal is ~60 Ohms)

   Visually inspect the Body Control Module (BCM) for blown fuses, water ingress, or burnt pins

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Body Computer and the EDC for chafing, breaks, or loose connector pins

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the CAN network or unplugging modules.

   Isolate the Fault

   If the CAN resistance test fails, unplug modules on the CAN network one by one (Instrument Cluster, BCM, ABS) until the resistance returns to 60 Ohms. The last unplugged module (or its wiring branch) is the source of the short/open circuit.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break or short is found in the harness between the BCM and EDC, repair the wiring using OEM-approved splicing methods and heat shrink.

   Address the BCM

   If the wiring is intact and the BCM is not transmitting, the BCM must be repaired or replaced. If replacing, the new/used BCM must be cloned (EEPROM/MCU data transferred) or programmed via Iveco EASY/Jaltest dealer software.

   Reassembly and Proxy Alignment

   Reconnect all modules and the battery. If a new BCM or instrument cluster was installed, perform a CAN-bus Sync / Proxy Alignment using a diagnostic scan tool to pair the modules.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 02B4 fault code from the EDC and test drive the vehicle to ensure the trip computer data is broadcasting correctly.
