Iveco 02FF – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Critical injection time to dissolve the oil in the engine cylinder
Issue description
Engine oil has been severely diluted by diesel fuel due to excessive or prolonged DPF regenerations, reducing its lubricating properties and risking catastrophic engine damage.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Iveco Daily
- Iveco Stralis
- Iveco Tector
- Iveco Eurocargo
Check the cause
Check engine oil level and condition to see if it is overfull or smells strongly of diesel fuel
Scan for accompanying DPF codes (such as 01F9) which indicate a clogged DPF causing excessive regenerations
Monitor DPF live data, including differential pressure sensor readings and soot accumulation percentage, to determine if the DPF is blocked
Repair steps
Drain the Engine Oil
Safely drain the diluted engine oil from the oil pan.
Replace the Oil Filter
Remove the old engine oil filter and install a new OEM-spec oil filter.
Refill Engine Oil
Fill the engine with the correct volume and specification of fresh engine oil (e.g., Urania Daily or equivalent synthetic diesel oil).
Reset the ECU Oil Degradation Counter
Connect a compatible diagnostic scan tool to the OBD port. Access the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and perform the 'Oil Replacement' or 'Oil Dilution Reset' service function. If the ECU is not told the oil has been changed, the 02FF code will persist.
Address the DPF (If Necessary)
If diagnostic checks revealed a clogged DPF, perform a forced stationary DPF regeneration using the scan tool. If the DPF will not regenerate or is physically damaged, it must be removed and professionally cleaned or replaced to prevent the new oil from being immediately diluted again.
