Iveco 060A – Engine Control Module (ECM / PCM): Controller: open or short circuit on the 'weight' [ground] of the oxygen sensor heater circuit 1.

The engine computer has detected a malfunction in the heating element circuit of the upstream oxygen sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1). The circuit is either broken (open) or the ground control wire is shorting out against the chassis or another wire.

   Use an OBD-II or Iveco-specific diagnostic scanner to confirm 060A is the only code and check live data for Bank 1 Sensor 1 heater status.

   Check the fuse box for a blown O2 sensor heater fuse, which often indicates a short to ground.

   Trace the wiring harness from the upstream O2 sensor to the ECM. Look for melted wires from exhaust heat, chafing, or water intrusion in the connector.

   Disconnect the O2 sensor and measure the resistance across the two heater pins on the sensor side using a multimeter. A healthy heater element reads between 2 to 15 ohms. An 'OL' (infinite resistance) reading means the sensor is internally open and must be replaced.

   Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and check the harness side of the connector for a 12V power supply. Check the ground control wire for an unwanted short to the chassis.

   Prep the Vehicle

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the upstream oxygen sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1), which is positioned on the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe just before the catalytic converter.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Use a specialized 7/8" (22mm) slotted O2 sensor socket and a breaker bar to carefully unthread the sensor. Tip: If it is stuck, apply penetrating oil and let it sit, or slightly warm the exhaust.

   Prepare the New Sensor

   Check that the new sensor matches the old one (pin count and thread size). Apply a small amount of high-temp anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (avoid getting any on the sensor tip).

   Install

   Thread the new sensor in by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.

   Reconnect

   Route the wiring harness safely away from the hot exhaust pipes and plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use your diagnostic scanner to clear the 060A fault code. Start the engine and verify that the Check Engine Light remains off.
