Iveco 060C – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Open circuit or short circuit in the 'weight' [ground] of the heating circuit of oxygen sensor 1

The control module has detected an electrical fault—specifically an open circuit or a short to ground—in the heater circuit for the upstream oxygen sensor (Sensor 1).

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and Oxygen Sensor 1 for chafing, melted wires, corrosion, or loose pins

   Disconnect the oxygen sensor and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the heater element pins on the sensor side to check for an internal open or short circuit

   Turn the ignition ON (engine off) and check the harness side of the connector for proper heater voltage supply and a good ground signal from the ECU

   Verify that the fuses or relays supplying power to the engine sensors and emissions components are intact

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate sensor

   Locate Oxygen Sensor 1 on the exhaust system (upstream of the DPF/catalytic converter).

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector from the main engine harness.

   Repair wiring

   If the wiring harness was found to be damaged during diagnostics, repair the open or shorted wires and secure them away from extreme exhaust heat.

   Remove faulty sensor

   If the sensor is faulty, use a specialized oxygen sensor socket (usually 22mm or 7/8") to carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe. Note: Penetrating oil may be required if the sensor is seized.

   Apply anti-seize

   Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensor (if it does not come pre-greased). Do not get grease on the sensor tip.

   Install new sensor

   Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

    Clear fault code

    Connect a diagnostic scan tool (such as Jaltest, Iveco EASY, or equivalent) to the OBD port and clear the 060C fault code.

    Verify repair

    Start the engine, let it reach operating temperature, and verify that the code does not return.
