Iveco 060E – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Oxygen sensor signal No. 1 out of range (partial load)
Issue description
The engine control module has detected that the voltage signal from Oxygen (O2) Sensor 1 (the upstream sensor located before the catalytic converter) is falling outside the permissible or expected parameters while the engine is operating under a partial load. This typically indicates that the sensor is failing, there is a wiring issue, or the engine is running with an incorrect air-fuel mixture (too rich or too lean) that the sensor cannot accurately measure.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and the connector for Oxygen Sensor 1. Look for melted wires, corrosion, or loose pins.
Exhaust Leak Check: Check for any exhaust leaks upstream of the oxygen sensor.
Electrical Testing: Use a multimeter or an oscilloscope to test the sensor's signal voltage and the heater circuit resistance to verify if the sensor itself is dead or sluggish.
Fuel/Air System Check: Ensure the engine isn't suffering from a severe rich/lean condition caused by leaking fuel injectors, a clogged air filter, or intake leaks.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the ignition, remove the keys, and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Allow the exhaust system to cool completely.
Locate the Sensor
Locate Oxygen Sensor No. 1. It is threaded into the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe just before the catalytic converter/DPF assembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Unclip the sensor's electrical connector from the main engine wiring harness.
Remove the Sensor
Using a specialized 22mm oxygen sensor socket and a breaker bar, carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from the exhaust. (If it is seized, apply penetrating oil and let it sit before attempting removal).
Prepare the New Sensor
Check the threads of the new sensor. If it does not come with anti-seize compound pre-applied, apply a small amount to the threads. Caution: Do not get any anti-seize on the sensor tip, as this will ruin it.
Installation
Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading. Tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque using a torque wrench.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the harness. Ensure the wiring is routed safely away from hot exhaust pipes and secured with clips.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use an OBD-II diagnostic scanner to clear the 060E fault code from the ECU. Start the engine and test drive to ensure the code does not return.
