Iveco 10 – ECAS (Electronically Controlled Air Suspension) Control Unit: Malfunction of the right back (rear) level sensor
Issue description
In an air suspension system, this distance sensor monitors the ride height of the vehicle's right rear side. The fault is triggered when the sensor provides an unstable signal, reads out of range, or experiences an open/short circuit, preventing the system from accurately determining or adjusting the vehicle's height.

Check the cause
Inspect the mechanical linkage arm and ball joint for play, wear, or deformation. Mechanical binding or worn joints can cause signal errors.
Inspect the electrical connector for moisture, salt ingress, or oxidized pins. Ensure the connection is clean and properly seated.
Test the harness and connector pins for continuity to rule out an open or short circuit between the sensor and the ECAS ECU.
Ensure the arm's range of motion does not bind against mechanical stops, which can strain and damage the sensor.
Repair steps
Preparation
Safely support the vehicle chassis to prevent sudden drops in air suspension height during the repair.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical harness from the right rear level sensor. Unbolt the sensor linkage arm and remove the sensor assembly from its mounting bracket.
Verification
Compare the new sensor to the old one. It is critical that the arm length, connector layout, and operating angle match the original part exactly. A mismatched sensor will cause faulty leveling and uneven loading.
Installation
Mount the new sensor and attach the linkage arm. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring it clicks into place to maintain its IP67 moisture seal.
Calibration (Crucial)
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (such as WABCO diagnostic software, Jaltest, or Iveco Modus/IWT) to the vehicle's diagnostic port. You must recalibrate the vehicle height in the ECAS unit. If this step is skipped, the system will operate against the wrong reference values and fail to reach the correct ride height.
Clear Codes
Clear the fault memory in the ECAS ECU and verify that the ECAS warning light turns off.
