Iveco 112 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Sensor circuit failure № 1 acceleration pedal position

Electrical malfunction in the primary potentiometer (Sensor 1) circuit of the accelerator pedal assembly. The ECU detects an implausible signal, short circuit, or open circuit, causing the engine to enter limp mode with an accelerated idle and no throttle response.

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool and monitor live data for Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1. The signal should smoothly increase from 0% to 100% when pressed.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the accelerator pedal for chafing, corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Inspect the Engine ECU connector for similar signs of damage or poor connection.

   Using a multimeter, verify the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and a solid ground from the ECU.

   Test the signal wire for continuity between the pedal connector and the ECU harness, ensuring no short circuit to ground or battery voltage.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Locate pedal assembly

   Locate the accelerator pedal assembly in the driver's footwell.

   Disconnect harness

   Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the pedal assembly.

   Remove mounting hardware

   Remove the mounting bolts/nuts securing the accelerator pedal bracket to the floor or bulkhead.

   Remove faulty pedal

   Remove the faulty accelerator pedal assembly from the vehicle.

   Install new pedal

   Position the new OEM accelerator pedal assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Clear fault code

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle's OBD port and clear the 0112 fault code from the Engine ECU memory.

    Test operation

    Turn the ignition on (without starting the engine) and verify smooth 0-100% pedal operation on the scan tool. Start the engine and test drive to confirm normal throttle response and that the elevated idle condition is resolved.
