Iveco 116 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) / Engine ECU: Clutch switch circuit malfunction
Issue description
The control module is receiving an implausible or missing signal from the clutch pedal position switch. The live parameter reading often incorrectly shows that the clutch pedal is continuously pressed, pointing to a failed switch or a wiring issue in the pedal circuit.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Iveco Daily
- Iveco Stralis
- Iveco Trakker
Check the cause
Verify live data parameters with a diagnostic scan tool to check if the ECU registers the clutch as 'pressed' when the pedal is fully released.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the clutch pedal switch (located under the dash on the pedal assembly) for frayed wires, loose connections, or corrosion.
Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter to test for continuity. The switch should clearly alternate between an open and closed circuit as the plunger is manually depressed and released.
Repair steps
Turn off vehicle
Ensure the vehicle is turned off and the keys are removed from the ignition.
Locate switch
Locate the clutch pedal position switch, which is mounted near the top of the clutch pedal assembly under the driver's side dashboard.
Unplug connector
Carefully unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the switch.
Remove faulty switch
Remove the faulty switch from its mounting bracket (this typically involves twisting the switch counterclockwise to unlock it or depressing a retaining tab).
Install new switch
Insert the new OEM clutch pedal switch into the bracket and lock it into place.
Reconnect wiring
Reconnect the electrical wiring harness to the new switch.
Clear fault code
Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle's OBD port and clear the 0116 fault code from the EDC/ECU memory.
Test vehicle
Test the vehicle to ensure the engine starts properly, cruise control functions (if equipped), and the EDC warning light remains off.
