Issue description
Electrical fault, incorrect signal, or loss of communication in the circuit that controls the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (the Check Engine light) on the dashboard.

Check the cause
Verify the physical condition of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) / Check Engine bulb or LED in the instrument cluster to ensure it is not blown.
Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the instrument cluster for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to voltage.
Check the instrument cluster connectors for corrosion, loose pins, or damage.
Repair steps
Replace the MIL bulb/LED
Replace the MIL bulb/LED if it is found to be burnt out.
Repair or replace wiring harness
Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the dashboard.
Replace or remanufacture instrument cluster
If the internal circuitry of the dashboard is faulty, remove and replace (or send out for remanufacture) the instrument cluster assembly.
