Iveco 126 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): System voltage is outside the operating range of the controller.

The voltage being supplied to the engine's control module has dropped below or spiked above the safe, predefined operating thresholds. When this happens, the controller may limit engine performance, trigger a limp mode, or prevent the engine from starting to protect sensitive electronic components.

   Check battery resting voltage with the engine off to ensure batteries are holding a proper charge (approx. 12.6V for 12V systems or 25.2V for 24V systems).

   Measure alternator output (charging voltage) at the battery terminals with the engine running to check for overvoltage (over 15V on 12V or over 29.5V on 24V).

   Check the EDC main power relay for sticking or failing, which can cause voltage drops.

   Inspect wiring harness between batteries, alternator, and EDC for corroded pins, and verify main chassis ground points are clean and tight.

   Test and Replace Batteries (If Necessary)

   If the resting voltage is significantly low and the batteries fail a load test, replace the batteries and clear the code.

   Test and Replace the Alternator

   If the engine is running and the multimeter shows an overvoltage condition, the alternator (or its voltage regulator) is overcharging the system. Disconnect the batteries, remove the serpentine belt, unbolt the alternator, and install a replacement unit.

   Inspect and Swap the EDC Relay

   Locate the EDC Main Relay in the vehicle's fuse/relay distribution box. Swap it with a known good relay of the same amperage. If the fault clears, permanently replace the relay.

   Clean Ground Straps

   Remove the main ground straps connecting the cab to the frame and the battery to the chassis. Wire-brush the contact points until bare metal is exposed, apply dielectric grease, and securely retighten the bolts.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components, turn the ignition on, and use a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as Iveco EASY, Texa, or Bosch KTS) to clear the EDC fault memory. Start the engine and verify the EDC warning light remains off.
