Iveco 134 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Command Module: Charge Air Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an unlikely signal, an out-of-range voltage, or a complete lack of activity from the charge air (boost) pressure sensor circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Daily
  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco EuroCargo
  • Iveco Trakker

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness and the 3-pin or 4-pin connector leading to the boost pressure sensor for chafing, corrosion, or loose connections.

  2. Check for Leaks: Inspect the intercooler, vacuum lines, and charge air pipes for cracks or leaks. A physical boost leak can cause the sensor to report an implausible signal to the ECU, triggering code 0134.

  3. Sensor Cleaning: Remove the MAP/Boost sensor and inspect the tip. Soot and carbon buildup (especially from EGR/DPF systems) can clog the sensor element. Clean it carefully using a dedicated electronic or MAP sensor cleaner (do not poke the element).

  4. Live Data Test: Use a diagnostic scanner (like Delphi DS150E or Iveco EASY) to monitor the live boost pressure data. The pressure should rise smoothly as engine RPM increases. If the voltage remains static (often stuck at 0V or 5V), the sensor or its wiring is dead.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the ignition, remove the keys, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Find the charge air pressure sensor, which is typically mounted directly on the intake manifold or the rigid intercooler piping.

  3. Disconnect

Press the release tab on the Bosch electrical connector and pull it away from the sensor.

  4. Removal

Remove the retaining fasteners (usually a single bolt or a 2-bolt flange, depending on the engine model). Gently twist and pull the sensor out of its mounting hole.

  5. Installation

Lightly lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with a drop of clean engine oil to prevent it from tearing during insertion. Push the new sensor into place.

  6. Reassembly

Install and tighten the retaining bolt(s). Reconnect the electrical plug until it clicks securely.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Connect your OBD diagnostic tool and clear the 0134 fault code. Start the engine and test drive the vehicle to ensure the code does not return and turbo boost is restored.
