Iveco 161 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Injector 1 Control Circuit Malfunction

The engine control module has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or incorrect resistance—in the wiring or the internal solenoid/piezo actuator of the fuel injector for cylinder 1.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and Injector 1 for continuity, breaks, chafing, or shorts to ground/power

   Inspect the electrical connectors at both the cylinder 1 injector and the ECU for corrosion, bent pins, or loose connections

   Measure the resistance of the Injector 1 actuator using a multimeter to ensure it falls within OEM specifications (a failed internal coil requires injector replacement)

   Look for accompanying codes such as 016A (Injector 1 control circuit failure) or 016C (Limit the drop of the torque in cylinder 1) to confirm a localized issue on the first cylinder

   Preparation

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover or valve cover as necessary to gain access to the fuel injectors.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector and the fuel return line clip from Injector 1. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bracket.

   Extraction

   Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head. (An injector puller tool may be required if it is seized).

   Cleaning

   Thoroughly clean the injector bore and seat in the cylinder head to ensure a proper seal.

   Installation

   Install the new injector using a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the fuel lines and the electrical connector. Reinstall any removed covers and reconnect the battery.

   ECU Coding

   Use a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as Iveco MODUS, IT 2000, TEXA, or Topdon) to program the new injector's IMA code (Injector Menge Abgleichung / Injector Quantity Offset) into the Engine ECU.

   Verification

   Clear the fault codes, prime the fuel system, and test drive the vehicle while monitoring rail pressure stability and idle quality.
