Iveco 162 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): The fault injector control circuit 2
Issue description
The engine computer has detected an electrical interruption or anomaly in the fuel injector circuit for cylinder number 2. The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to battery voltage, high resistance in the wiring, or a burned-out internal coil within the injector itself.

Check the cause
Read all stored codes and freeze-frame data with a diagnostic scan tool, clear the codes, and crank the engine to see if 0162 returns immediately.
Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector for the cylinder 2 injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Unplug the cylinder 2 injector and measure the resistance across its coil pins using a multimeter (typically less than 5 ohms). If out of limits, the injector is faulty.
With the key ON (engine off), check the injector harness connector to verify that battery voltage (approx. 12V or 24V) is present on the supply wire.
Connect a noid light or an oscilloscope to the injector connector and crank/run the engine to verify the EDC is actively grounding the circuit to pulse the injector.
Test the continuity of the ground/control wire from the injector connector back to the corresponding pin on the EDC harness.
Repair steps
Prep the Vehicle
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts. Clean the area around the fuel rail and valve cover to prevent dirt from entering the engine.
Access the Injector
Depending on the engine model (e.g., Tector 4.5L/6.7L), remove the valve cover if the injectors are located internally, or simply clear the intake/wiring harness if they are externally accessible.
Disconnect Lines
Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the cylinder 2 injector. Cap the rail and line fittings immediately to prevent contamination.
Remove the Injector
Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp or retaining bolt. Carefully extract the injector from its bore.
Clean the Bore
Thoroughly clean the injector bore and ensure the old copper sealing washer has been removed and is not stuck at the bottom of the hole.
Install the New Injector
Fit the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings (lubricate O-rings lightly with clean engine oil). Seat the injector into the bore.
Torque to Spec
Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the exact OEM specification. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque the fittings.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector. Reinstall the valve cover (using a new gasket if applicable) and any other removed components.
Code the Injector (IMA)
Reconnect the battery. Using a compatible diagnostic scan tool, enter the new injector's IMA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) code into the EDC so the computer can adjust fueling properly.
Test
Prime the fuel system, start the engine, check for leaks, and verify that fault code 0162 does not return.
