Iveco 165 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC: Injector Cylinder 5 / Short Circuit

One or more injectors (on bank 1 or bank 2) are not operating correctly. The system has detected an electrical fault, specifically a short circuit in the connections, a problem within the injector coil itself, or an internal fault within the control unit.

   Check the correct tightness/torque of the electrical connectors on the solenoid valve of the injector (specified torque is 1.36 – 1.92 Nm)

   Check the wiring harness between the injector solenoid valve and the EDC connector for any visible damage, chafing, or short circuits

   Test the integrity of the injector coil using a multimeter to ensure it is not internally shorted

   If the coil is integral and the wiring is intact, check for an internal problem within the ECM

   Gain access

   Gain access to the engine valve cover and locate Injector #5.

   Inspect wiring

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to Injector 5. Repair any frayed wires or short circuits found in the connections.

   Check torque

   Check the tightness of the solenoid valve connectors. Torque them to 1.36 – 1.92 Nm if they are loose.

   Test coil

   Test the injector coil. If the coil fails the integrity test, the injector is defective and must be replaced.

   Replace injector

   If replacing the injector, remove the defective unit and install the new OEM injector. (Note: Depending on the exact engine generation, the new injector IMA code may need to be programmed into the ECM).

   Repair or replace ECM

   If the wiring and injector are both functioning perfectly, the ECM has an internal fault and will need to be repaired or replaced.
