Iveco 166 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Defective injector control circuit 6
Issue description
The engine control module has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to battery voltage—in the wiring circuit or the solenoid of the fuel injector for cylinder #6.

Check the cause
Scan for accompanying fault codes. If codes for multiple injectors (e.g., 0161, 0162, 0163) are present, the issue is likely a shared ground wire, a damaged main engine harness, or a failing EDC module.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the EDC to injector #6 for chafed wires, melted insulation, or oil intrusion in the connectors.
Disconnect the EDC harness and the injector #6 connector. Use a multimeter to test the wires for continuity, and ensure there is no short to ground or short to voltage.
Measure the resistance across the pins of injector #6 and compare it to a known good injector (e.g., injector #5). If the resistance is out of specification, the injector has failed internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes from damaging the EDC during repair.
Access the Injector
Remove the valve cover or injector acoustic cover to access cylinder #6 (the rearmost cylinder on the engine block).
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken or shorted wire, repair the harness using OEM-approved waterproof splices, or replace the injector harness section.
Remove the Faulty Injector
Clean the area around the injector thoroughly to prevent dirt from falling into the cylinder. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the injector, remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt, and carefully extract the injector.
Install the New Injector
Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the cylinder head. Install a new copper washer on the new injector and seat it into the bore. Install the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to OEM specifications. Reinstall the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec.
Reassembly & Coding
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery. Using a compatible diagnostic scan tool, program the new injector's IMA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) code into the EDC so the module can adjust fueling properly.
Clear & Test
Clear the 0166 fault code from the EDC memory and run the engine to verify the repair. Check for fuel leaks around the high-pressure line.
