Iveco 167 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Injector 4 control circuit open or short to ground

The engine computer has detected an electrical break (open circuit) or a short to the chassis ground on the wiring circuit that controls the fuel injector for cylinder number 4.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the EDC module to Injector 4 for chafed wires, melted insulation, or areas rubbing against the engine block.

   Check the injector harness carrier/pass-through connector for oil intrusion, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Disconnect the electrical plug at Injector 4 and measure the resistance across the injector's terminals with a multimeter to check for an internal short.

   Test the wiring from the ECU connector to the injector connector for continuity and ensure there is no continuity to ground when both ends are unplugged.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery terminals to prevent electrical damage.

   Gain Access

   Remove the valve cover to access the fuel injectors and the internal injector wiring harness.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from Injector 4. If the internal harness is brittle or oil-damaged, remove and replace the injector harness carrier.

   Remove Fuel Lines

   Disconnect the high-pressure fuel lines connected to the injector. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.

   Extract the Injector

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

   Clean and Prep

   Remove and discard the old copper sealing washer from the bottom of the injector cup. Thoroughly clean the injector sleeve/cup in the cylinder head to ensure a proper seal.

   Install New Injector

   Fit a new copper washer onto the new injector. Insert the injector into the cylinder head.

   Torque to Spec

   Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque it to the exact Iveco OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel lines.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the injector electrical connector. Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket.

    Finalize

    Reconnect the batteries, prime the fuel system to remove air, and use a diagnostic scan tool (such as TEXA IDC5 or Iveco EASY) to clear the 0167 fault code and verify the repair.
