Iveco 168 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Injector 1 Control Circuit Malfunction
Issue description
The engine computer has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit responsible for firing the fuel injector on Cylinder 1, such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to battery voltage, or resistance outside of the expected parameters.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at Injector 1 for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or melted wire insulation.
Perform a resistance test on the Injector 1 coil by disconnecting the connector and measuring across the pins, comparing to OEM specifications.
Test the harness for continuity, shorts to ground, and shorts to power between the EDC (Connector A) and the injector.
Check the EDC for burnt internal injector drivers if the wiring and injector test perfectly.
Repair steps
Prep the Vehicle
Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove any engine covers, intake piping, or brackets obstructing access to the fuel rail and injectors.
Disconnect Lines
Thoroughly clean the area around Injector 1 to prevent dirt from falling into the cylinder. Disconnect the electrical connector, the high-pressure fuel line, and the low-pressure leak-off (return) line.
Remove the Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head. (If it is seized, a specialized slide hammer or hydraulic puller may be required).
Clean the Bore
Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the bottom of the injector bore. Clean the bore thoroughly.
Install the New Injector
Fit a new copper crush washer and O-ring to the new injector. Seat the injector into the bore and install the hold-down clamp.
Reassembly
Torque the hold-down bolt and the high-pressure fuel line fittings to Iveco's exact OEM torque specifications. Reconnect the leak-off line and the electrical connector.
ECU Coding
Reconnect the battery. Using a compatible diagnostic scan tool, you must program the new injector's IMA code (printed on the top of the new injector) into the EDC.
Test
Clear the 0168 fault code, prime the fuel system, start the engine, and check for leaks and smooth operation.
