Iveco 169 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Injector 1 control circuit malfunction

Indicates an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to positive voltage—in the wiring or the solenoid of the fuel injector for cylinder number 1.

   Check the wiring harness between the EDC ECU and Injector 1 for chafed wires causing a short to ground or broken wires causing an open circuit.

   Inspect the main EDC connectors (specifically Connector A) for bent pins, corrosion, or oil/water ingress.

   Disconnect the plug at Injector 1 and measure the resistance across the injector pins with a multimeter. Test for continuity to ground to ensure the injector hasn't shorted internally.

   Inspect the specific injector pigtail connector for heat damage, vibration wear, or loose terminals.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the vehicle/machine battery to prevent electrical spikes while working on the EDC system.

   Isolate the Fault

   Based on your diagnostic checks, determine if the fault lies in the wiring harness, the connector, or the injector itself.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the wiring is damaged, repair the break. If the ECU plug or injector pigtail is corroded/melted, splice in a replacement connector kit (e.g., a Bosch 16-way repair harness).

   Replace Injector 1

   If the wiring tests perfectly but the injector solenoid is shorted or open, remove and replace the fuel injector for cylinder 1.

   Replace Return Lines

   When replacing an injector, it is highly recommended to replace the brittle fuel injector return line (leak-off pipe) to prevent subsequent diesel leaks.

   Reconnect all components, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool (or the Iveco blink code procedure, if applicable to your older model) to clear the stored 0169 fault code. Test run the engine to verify the repair.
