Iveco 182 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Issue description
The sensor reading is out of the expected range (typically a low voltage abnormality or short/open circuit), meaning the engine control unit is receiving invalid data regarding the temperature of the air entering the intake manifold. Because the air temperature dictates air density, this fault can negatively affect the air-to-fuel ratio, leading to performance issues or increased emissions.

Check the cause
Live Data Verification: Connect an OBD2 scanner or Iveco diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or E.A.S.Y.) and check the live data for the Intake Air Temperature. Compare the reading to the ambient temperature when the engine is cold; if it reads an extreme value (e.g., -40°C or 150°C), the circuit is compromised.
Visual Inspection: Inspect the IAT sensor connector, the intermediate connectors, and the wiring harness leading back to the EDC for looseness, corrosion, or a short to ground/open circuit.
Multimeter Resistance Test: Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the sensor's pins. Compare the reading to the manufacturer's NTC thermistor temperature/resistance specifications to see if the sensor itself has failed.
Voltage Check: Turn the ignition on (engine off) and backprobe the connector to ensure the EDC is supplying the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and a solid ground to the sensor.
Repair steps
Turn off the vehicle ignition and disconnect the battery.
Turn off the vehicle ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor.
Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor on the intake manifold or air intake pipe.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the sensor from its mounting point.
Remove the sensor from its mounting point (depending on the exact engine, it may be threaded in or held by a retaining clip/screws).
Clean the mounting port.
Clean the mounting port to ensure a good seal for the new sensor. (Note: Sometimes simply cleaning a dirty sensor with electrical parts cleaner can resolve the issue, but replacement is recommended if internal resistance is out of spec).
Install the new IAT sensor.
Install the new IAT sensor, ensuring the sealing ring/O-ring is properly seated to prevent boost leaks.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reconnect the battery and clear the fault code.
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use your diagnostic scan tool to clear the 0182 fault code from the EDC memory.
Start the engine and verify live data.
Start the engine and verify via live data that the intake air temperature is now reading correctly.
