Iveco 194 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Increased performance (power) of the turbocharger / Turbocharger Control Overboost Pressure

Boost pressure deviation where the pressure is too high (above the maximum threshold). When the engine is under heavy load and tries to build up power, the system detects this overboost condition, flashes the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) light, and immediately forces the vehicle into 'limp mode' to protect the engine from damage.

   Inspect all vacuum hoses routing to the turbocharger actuator and the boost control solenoid for clogs, collapses, or breaks that would prevent pressure venting.

   Test the VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) linkage by disconnecting the actuator arm and moving the linkage by hand. If it does not make full travel or feels gritty, the turbo vanes are stuck with carbon buildup.

   Test the turbo actuator solenoid (electro-valve) for electrical or mechanical failure. A failed solenoid will often make a loud buzzing/humming noise or fail open (allowing air to be sucked straight through).

   Locate the Boost Pressure Control Solenoid

   Locate the Boost Pressure Control Solenoid (VGT Electro-valve). This is typically mounted in the engine bay on the driver's side front, where the vacuum pipes route into it.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical harness plug. Carefully remove the vacuum hoses (note their routing for reassembly). Unbolt the solenoid bracket from the chassis.

   Install the Replacement Solenoid

   Mount the new OEM electro-valve. Reconnect the vacuum hoses securely to ensure there are no vacuum leaks. Plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear the Fault Code

   Use a compatible OBD/EDC diagnostic scanner to clear code 0194 from the Engine ECU.

   Test Drive

   Take the vehicle for a test drive under heavy load (e.g., accelerating up a hill) to ensure the EDC light does not return and the vehicle no longer enters limp mode.
