Iveco 195 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Reduced Productivity (Power) of the Turbocharger
Issue description
This is an underboost condition where the turbocharger is failing to produce the expected boost pressure required by the engine under its current load and RPM.
Applies to these machines
13 machines- Stralis
- Tector
- Daily
- T9030
- TD series
- L190
- C190
- U80
- 440
- 440ct

Check the cause
Inspect all intercooler hoses, clamps, and the charge air cooler for boost leaks, cracks, or loose connections
Check the engine air filter for severe restrictions or blockages that could starve the turbocharger of intake air
Verify the operation of the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) / boost pressure sensor to ensure it is not sending falsely low readings to the ECU
Inspect the wastegate or Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) actuator and boost pressure control valve to ensure they are not stuck open
Check for exhaust restrictions that could prevent the turbine from spooling properly
Repair steps
Clear the fault code and test-drive the machine while monitoring live boost pressure data to confirm the fault is active.
Perform a visual and smoke test on the intake/charge air system.
Repair or replace any leaking hoses, clamps, or intercooler components.
Replace the air filter if it is heavily soiled or restricted.
Test the boost pressure control valve/actuator.
If it is faulty or seized, replace the actuator or control valve.
Remove the intake piping from the turbocharger and inspect the compressor wheel.
Check for excessive shaft play, oil leaks, or foreign object damage to the compressor or turbine wheels.
If internal turbocharger failure is confirmed (damaged wheels or worn bearings), remove the exhaust and oil feed/drain lines, and unbolt the turbocharger from the exhaust manifold.
Install the new turbocharger using new stainless steel turbine gaskets and paper oil outlet gaskets.
Prime the turbocharger with clean engine oil before starting the engine.
Clear the fault codes and run the engine under load to verify that boost pressure is restored and the code does not return.
