2.4

Iveco 2.4 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) or EMS 2: Charge pressure sensor fault

Issue description

Indicates a fault with the Charge pressure sensor (also known as the charge air pressure sensor or boost pressure sensor). The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault, specifically a short circuit to positive (+) or earth/negative (-), an open circuit in the sensor wiring, or abnormal voltage or pressure readings. The engine may smoke more than normally during acceleration or under load increases, and the vehicle may enter a derated 'limp mode'.

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Daily (Daily II
  • Daily III
  • Daily IV)
  • Iveco Eurocargo
  • Iveco EuroTech
  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco Trakker
  • Industrial/Generator engines utilizing the EMS2/EDC systems

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the charge pressure sensor connector is correctly and securely installed

  2. Inspect the charge air pressure sensor cable harness for any visible damage, chafing, or breaks that could cause an open or short circuit

  3. Ensure the charge pressure sensor is correctly mounted and sealed in its housing

  4. Check the overall function of the turbocharger compressor and wastegate to ensure the sensor isn't reading an actual over-pressure or under-pressure mechanical failure

Repair steps

  1. Read and Confirm Code

Press the diagnostic button and count the flashes on the EDC diagnostic lamp (Pause = Fault code 2.4) to confirm the code is active.

  2. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the charge pressure sensor. Clean the electrical contacts with contact cleaner to rule out high resistance from dirt or moisture.

  3. Test the Circuit

Use a multimeter to check for continuity in the wiring harness between the sensor connector and the EDC module. Repair any broken wires or short circuits found.

  4. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact and the connector is secure, the sensor itself has likely failed internally. Remove the retaining bolt(s), pull out the old sensor, and install the new OEM replacement sensor.

  5. Clear the Code

Once the fault has been rectified, the fault code should disappear from the display and the diagnostic lamp will go out upon the next key cycle or diagnostic reset.
