Iveco 2.6 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU) / Bosch EDC MS6.2 SW 5.X: Engine brake sensor signal
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction, implausible signal, or jamming of the engine brake control switches or selection switch. If the switch is jammed 'ON', the ECU will cut off fuel injection, causing the engine speed to fall to 800 rpm before cutting fuel injection again. If the switch is jammed 'OFF' or the circuit is broken, the engine brake will fail to work in all selected modes.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Iveco Eurotrakker
- Iveco Trakker
- Iveco Eurocargo
- Iveco Stralis
Check the cause
Perform an active diagnosis using a diagnostic tool (e.g., Iveco Modus, IWT, or Jaltest) to read live parameters and test the engine brake solenoid valve.
Verify if the engine brake selection switch is physically jammed in the 'ON' or 'OFF' position.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running from the engine brake switch to the EDC control unit for shorts, breaks, or corrosion.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits or ECU damage.
Access the Switch
Locate the engine brake control switch (typically located on the steering column stalk or the dashboard, depending on the specific Iveco model).
Test the Switch
Disconnect the switch's wiring harness. Use a multimeter to test for proper continuity across the switch terminals in all toggle positions.
Inspect the Harness
If the switch tests good, use the multimeter to check the continuity of the wiring harness back to the EDC ECU pins. Repair any broken wires or clean corroded connector pins.
Replace the Component
If the switch is mechanically jammed or fails the electrical continuity test, replace it with a new unit.
Reassembly
Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch and secure it in the dash or steering column.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Clear the fault memory using the EDC blink code button or a diagnostic tool. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the engine brake engages properly (must be above 900 rpm).
