Iveco 236 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Incorrect signal in the fuel pressure sensor circuit in the ramp when the internal combustion engine is stopped.
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is receiving an implausible, out-of-range, or incorrect voltage signal from the fuel rail (ramp) pressure sensor specifically during or after the engine shutdown sequence. When the engine is stopped, the fuel pressure in the common rail should drop to a predictable baseline. If the sensor reads a pressure that is too high, too low, or erratic when the engine is off, the ECU flags this sensor circuit as faulty.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the fuel rail pressure sensor for chafing, melting from engine heat, or breaks.
Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or poor terminal tension.
Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and ground from the ECU. Check the signal wire for continuity back to the ECU to rule out an open or short circuit.
Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the live fuel rail pressure data with the engine off. It should read at or near zero (or a baseline atmospheric pressure depending on the specific sensor calibration). If it reads an impossibly high pressure while the engine is off, the sensor is internally shorted or faulty.
Repair steps
Preparation
Ensure the engine is turned off and has cooled down. Crucial: Wait for the high-pressure fuel system to depressurize completely before loosening any fittings to avoid high-pressure fuel injection injuries.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the fuel pressure sensor, which is threaded into one end of the common fuel rail.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Removal
Using the appropriate wrench, carefully unscrew the old sensor from the fuel rail. Have a rag ready to catch any residual fuel drips.
Installation
Thread the new genuine OEM sensor into the fuel rail. Tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can damage the threads or the sensor's internal diaphragm).
Reconnection
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Testing
Turn the ignition on (without starting) and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 0236 fault code. Start the engine, check for fuel leaks around the sensor threads, and verify that the engine runs smoothly without triggering the check engine light.
