Iveco 30 – ECAS ECU: Inlet / outlet solenoid valve malfunction

Issue description

The control module is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the circuit controlling the main inlet/outlet air suspension solenoid, indicating a short to power (Short circuit to + DC).

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco Eurocargo
  • Iveco Trakker
  • Iveco Eurofire

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and bayonet connectors between the ECAS ECU and the solenoid valve block for chafed wires touching a power source or corroded pins.

  2. Connect a diagnostic PC or use the ECAS remote control unit to command the suspension to a 'normal level' and observe if the solenoid valve pulses erratically or is continuously energized.

  3. Inspect the ECAS controller board to verify the ECU is sending the correct voltage and is not internally shorted.

  4. Check if the vehicle body moves to the normal level with excessive oscillation (overshooting), which may indicate a parameter adjustment (KD value) is needed rather than a hard part replacement.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the vehicle's batteries before servicing the ECAS electrical system to prevent further shorting.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic phase revealed a short to power in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring and replace any melted or corroded connector pigtails.

  3. Replace the Solenoid Valve Block

If the wiring is intact and the short is internal to the solenoid coil, the valve block must be replaced. Depressurize the air suspension system safely, disconnect the pneumatic air lines (9.8 / 7.0 mm) and electrical bayonet connector (DIN 72585), then unbolt the valve block from the chassis and install the new unit.

  4. Re-calibrate the System

After replacing the ECAS solenoid valve, you must re-calibrate the vehicle. Move the vehicle to a level surface and use the PC diagnostic tool or remote control unit to set the nominal ride height parameters.

  5. Test Operation

Command the vehicle to raise and lower. Ensure the body does not tilt and that the bellows fill evenly without the control loop oscillating.
