Iveco 359 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Short circuit to ground of the control circuit of the fuel pump

The engine computer detects that the voltage on the fuel pump control wire has dropped to zero because the circuit is shorting directly to the vehicle's chassis ground.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the EDC to the fuel pump actuator (or fuel pump relay) for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could be touching the metal chassis (ground).

   Inspect the electrical connectors at both the EDC and the fuel pump/relay for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins that could bridge the control circuit to a ground pin.

   Test the fuel pump relay (common on Iveco Daily) or the high-pressure fuel pump metering actuator/MPROP (common on Stralis/Cursor) for an internal short to ground.

   Disconnect power

   Disconnect the vehicle's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent electrical spikes during testing.

   Isolate the circuit

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the fuel pump (or fuel pump relay) and the corresponding connector at the EDC.

   Test for short to ground

   Using a digital multimeter set to ohms (resistance), probe the fuel pump control wire on the harness side and connect the other lead to a known good chassis ground.

   Repair wiring

   If the multimeter shows continuity (low resistance), the wire is shorted to ground. Trace the harness to locate the damaged section, repair the wire, and apply heat-shrink tubing.

   Test the component

   If the wiring harness tests open (infinite resistance to ground), the short is likely internal to the fuel pump actuator or relay. Measure the resistance of the component's pins to its metal housing. If it is shorted, replace the actuator or relay.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect all electrical connectors and the battery terminals.

   Clear and verify

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the EDC fault codes. Cycle the ignition and test drive the vehicle to ensure code 0359 does not return.
