Iveco 5.1 – EDC: Steady on Fault in cylinder 1 injector

Issue description

This fault code indicates an electrical failure in the injector solenoid valve for cylinder 1. The Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) unit has detected that the electrical circuit for the cylinder 1 injector is either short-circuited (e.g., shorted to battery positive) or open-circuited.

Applies to these machines

  • Daily
  • Trakker
  • EuroTrakker
  • Stralis
  • Eurocargo Tector

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the nuts fixing the cables onto the injector solenoid valve are properly tightened (specified torque is 1.5 Nm)

  2. Check the continuity and resistance of the cylinder 1 injector solenoid valve (a healthy solenoid should read approximately 0.5 Ohms)

  3. Inspect the wiring harness on the cylinder head between connector 1 (pins 3 and 4) and the electro-injector

  4. Check the main engine cable for continuity and shorts between cylinder head connector 1, pin 3 and EDC connector pin A13

  5. Check the main engine cable for continuity and shorts between cylinder head connector 1, pin 4 and EDC connector pin A9

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Always disconnect the vehicle's battery before working on the EDC system or high-voltage injector circuits.

  2. Access the injectors

Remove the valve cover/rocker cover to gain access to the cylinder 1 injector and its wiring harness.

  3. Perform wiring repairs

If the diagnostic checks revealed an open or short circuit in the harness, repair or replace the affected wiring section. If the terminal nuts were loose, torque them to 1.5 Nm.

  4. Replace the injector (if faulty)

If the injector solenoid fails the resistance test (0.5 Ohms), the injector must be replaced. Remove the high-pressure fuel lines and the injector hold-down clamp, then extract the injector.

  5. Install new injector

Seat the new injector with new O-rings and copper washers. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to OEM torque specs.

  6. Code the injector

The new injector must be programmed/coded to the EDC using a dealer-level diagnostic tool (such as Iveco EASY/IWT or Jaltest). Generic OBD tools will not suffice for the calibration and relearn procedures.

  7. Clear fault memory

Clear the EDC fault memory. This can be done via the diagnostic tool or manually via the Blink Code button (with the key off, press and hold the diagnosis button for 4 to 8 seconds while turning the key on).
