5.2

Iveco 5.2 – Engine ECU (Electronic Diesel Control module, EDC MS6.2 or EDC7): Faulty cylinder 2 injector / Cylinder 2 injector solenoid valve

Issue description

The engine management system has detected an electrical malfunction, open/short circuit, or mechanical failure in the fuel injector responsible for cylinder number 2.

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Daily
  • Iveco Eurocargo
  • Iveco EuroTech
  • Iveco EuroTrakker
  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco Trakker

Check the cause

  1. Read Active vs. Stored Codes: Use the diagnostic button to read the blink codes or connect a diagnostic tool (like IT2000, Modus, or IWT) to confirm if the code is active or just stored in the history.

  2. Wiring and Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading from the EDC to the cylinder 2 injector. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins at the injector connector.

  3. Resistance Testing: Test the resistance of the cylinder 2 injector solenoid valve with a multimeter and compare it against a known good injector on the same engine bank.

  4. Cylinder Balancing Test: If using an advanced diagnostic tool, run a cylinder balancing parameter test to evaluate the performance of cylinder 2.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Disconnect the vehicle's battery. Remove any engine covers or intake components necessary to access the fuel rail and injectors.

  2. Disconnection

Unplug the electrical connector from the cylinder 2 injector.

  3. Fuel Line Removal

Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the cylinder 2 injector. Cap the open fuel rail and line fittings immediately to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  4. Injector Removal

Remove the injector hold-down clamp or retaining bolt. Carefully extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head.

  5. Cleaning

Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head, ensuring no carbon buildup or old sealing washers are left behind.

  6. Installation

Install the new injector using a brand-new copper sealing washer and O-rings.

  7. Reassembly

Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the retaining bolt to the specific OEM torque spec for your engine model. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector.

  8. System Bleeding

Reconnect the battery. Prime the fuel system to bleed out any air.

  9. Clear Fault Codes

Clear the EDC memory. If doing this manually via the blink code button: With the key turned off, press and hold the diagnosis button. Keeping the button pressed, turn the ignition key ON. Keep the button pressed for exactly 5 seconds, then let go. Turn the key OFF.
