5.6

Iveco 5.6 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / IVECO EDC MS6.2 (SW 5.X): Faulty cylinder nozzle 6 / Injector solenoid valve cylinder 6

Issue description

Indicates an electrical fault (short-circuit or open-circuit) in the fuel injector circuit for cylinder number 6. The EDC warning light will illuminate continuously, and the engine will typically drop a cylinder, running roughly on only 5 cylinders.

Applies to these machines

  • IVECO EuroTrakker
  • IVECO Trakker
  • IVECO Stralis
  • Astra heavy trucks
  • Machines equipped with the Iveco Cursor 13 (12.9L) 6-cylinder diesel engine

Check the cause

  1. Check that the nuts fixing the electrical cables onto the cylinder 6 injector solenoid valve are properly tightened to exactly 1.5 Nm (loose nuts are a common cause of this open-circuit fault).

  2. Test the cylinder 6 injector solenoid valve for proper electrical continuity and resistance.

  3. Inspect the cylinder head wiring harness for any breaks, brittle wires, or short circuits.

  4. Check the engine cable continuity between the cylinder head connector (pins 1 and 2 for the respective injector) and the main EDC control unit connector.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical spikes while working on the EDC system.

  2. Remove valve cover

Remove the engine valve cover to gain access to the unit injectors.

  3. Locate injector

Locate the injector for cylinder 6 (typically at the rear of the engine).

  4. Secure connections

Inspect the wiring terminals on the injector. Tighten the retaining nuts to the specified 1.5 Nm. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the solenoid.

  5. Test and replace injector

If the wiring harness tests fine but the injector solenoid fails the resistance test, the unit injector has failed internally and must be replaced. Remove the hold-down clamp, extract the faulty injector, and install the new unit injector with new O-rings/seals.

  6. Reassemble

Reinstall the valve cover and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear codes

Connect a diagnostic scanner (or use the EDC blink code deletion procedure) to clear the fault memory from the MS6.2 control unit.

  8. Test operation

Start the engine and perform a test drive. Verify that the engine runs smoothly on all 6 cylinders and that the EDC warning light remains off.
