Iveco 6.1 – Engine ECU (IVECO EDC MS6.2 SW 5.X Control Unit): Steady light Sensor on flywheel
Issue description
Triggered when there is a lack of signal or an unfeasible/erratic signal coming from the sensor that reads the flywheel's rotational speed and position. The engine will experience difficult startups under any condition, and the system will force a 'Power reduction' mode. If the flywheel signal is lost, the system typically adopts the distribution shaft (camshaft) sensor speed signal as a backup replacement.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connections leading to the flywheel/crankshaft sensor for broken wires or corroded terminals.
Ensure the sensor is securely mounted in its correct placement and hasn't backed out, which would increase the air gap and cause signal loss.
Verify there are no underlying mechanical timing issues (e.g., loose screws on the camshaft phonic wheel) that could cause the ECU to read a mismatch between the crank and cam sensors.
Check for accompanying codes, such as code 6.2 (Camshaft sensor), as both sensors work together for engine timing.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the crankshaft/flywheel position sensor, typically mounted on the engine block near the flywheel housing/bell housing.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor to the block.
Inspection
Carefully pull the old sensor out. Inspect the mounting hole and clean away any dirt, oil, or metallic debris that could interfere with the new sensor's magnetic field.
Installation
Insert the new crankshaft sensor into the mounting hole. Secure it with the retaining bolt and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical wiring harness connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or an Iveco-specific OBD interface) to clear the stored 6.1 fault code from the EDC.
Test Drive
Start the engine (verifying that the difficult startup symptom is gone) and conduct a test drive to confirm the fault code does not return and full power is restored.
