Iveco PC2ED – ECU: Control Error in Water Pump Actuator
Issue description
A control error has been detected in the water pump actuator. The actuator reports an issue related to the pump, indicating a problem with the engine's cooling system. A failure in this system can lead to poor coolant circulation and subsequent engine overheating.

Check the cause
Scan the ECU for any other fault codes that may provide more context for the issue
Check for engine overheating by verifying if the temperature gauge reads higher than normal (e.g., above 220°F or 100°C)
Visually inspect for coolant leaks around the water pump housing and from the weep hole (look for green, orange, or pink fluid)
Listen for abnormal noises such as a grinding, whining, or squealing sound from the front of the engine that changes with RPM
Inspect the serpentine belt for looseness or wear, which can cause slipping on the water pump pulley
Check for coolant flow by removing the radiator cap (only when the engine is cool) and starting the engine to observe circulation
Repair steps
Drain the Coolant
Place a container under the radiator and open the drain plug to empty the cooling system.
Remove the Serpentine Belt
Loosen the belt tensioner to remove the serpentine belt from the water pump pulley.
Remove the Water Pump Pulley
Unbolt and remove the pulley from the water pump.
Unbolt the Water Pump
Remove the bolts securing the water pump to the engine block.
Remove the Old Water Pump
Carefully detach the old water pump from the engine. Clean the mounting surface on the engine block to ensure a good seal with the new pump.
Install the New Water Pump
Place the new gasket and water pump onto the engine block and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reinstall Components
Reattach the water pump pulley and the serpentine belt.
Refill the Cooling System
Close the radiator drain plug and refill the system with the correct type of coolant.
Bleed the Cooling System
Start the engine with the radiator cap off to allow any air to escape from the system. Top off the coolant as needed.
Check for Leaks
Once the engine reaches operating temperature, check for any leaks around the new water pump.
