JCB P0206 – ECM: Injector 6 Short Circuit HSD to LSD
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an electrical malfunction in the control circuit for the fuel injector in cylinder 6. Specifically, there is a short circuit between the High-Side Driver (HSD) and the Low-Side Driver (LSD) transistors within the ECM that control power and ground signals to the injector. This condition prevents the injector from firing correctly, leading to a cylinder misfire and subsequent engine performance issues.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the cylinder 6 injector for chafed or melted insulation, especially where it might rub against sharp edges or hot engine components.
Check the electrical connector at the injector for corrosion, bent or loose pins, and moisture.
Disconnect the injector and use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance of the injector solenoid, comparing it to manufacturer specifications or other injectors.
Perform a circuit voltage test using a noid light or multimeter at the injector's electrical connector while cranking the engine to verify the ECM is sending a signal.
If available, use JCB ServiceMaster diagnostic software to perform an injector cutout test to confirm cylinder 6 is the malfunctioning unit.
Repair steps
Clear codes
Clear the fault codes and operate the machine to see if the code returns, confirming a persistent hard fault.
Repair wiring and connectors
If visual inspection reveals damage, repair chafed wires, clean corroded terminals with electrical contact cleaner, and ensure a secure connection. Apply dielectric grease to the connector to prevent moisture intrusion.
Replace fuel injector
If diagnostic tests confirm the injector itself has failed (e.g., incorrect resistance), replace the fuel injector. It is often recommended to replace the entire set to ensure balanced fuel delivery.
Verify repair
Clear any stored fault codes, start the engine, let it reach operating temperature, and test the machine under load to ensure the fault does not reappear.
Inspect ECM
If the wiring and injector are confirmed to be in good working order, the fault may lie within the injector driver circuit in the ECM. Testing and repair of the ECM should be performed by a qualified technician as a last resort.
