John Deere 01 – Header Control Unit: Header Calibration - Right Height Sensor 2 Voltage Too Low
Issue description
The right height sensor 2 is sending a voltage signal of less than 0.25 VDC to the control unit, which is below the expected normal operating range of 0.5 to 4.5 volts. This low voltage reading prevents the successful calibration of the header's automatic height control system. The system expects to see a signal from this sensor, especially if the left header height sensor is detected.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connected to the right-hand height sensor for any visible damage or loose connections, ensuring it is securely plugged in.
Visually inspect the right-hand sensor, its arm, and linkage for damage, blockages, or incorrect movement. Ensure the ground-following rod moves freely (apply a small amount of grease if stiff).
Ensure that the right-hand section of the flexible cutterbar is not hanging up or obstructed when the header is in the fully raised position.
Verify the sensor voltage through the combine's diagnostic addresses for the LC1 controller (operating range should be between 0.5 and 4.5 volts). If the voltage is too low, an adjustment may be necessary.
On headers equipped with height sensors for rigid mode, verify they are not pinned up if the machine is not being used in that mode, as this can cause a low voltage reading.
Repair steps
Adjust sensor linkage
If diagnostic checks indicate a low voltage not caused by damage, attempt to adjust the sensor. Move the linkage up one hole on the sensor arm or rearward one hole on the sensor arm to increase the voltage.
Recalibrate system
After making any linkage adjustments, attempt to perform the header calibration procedure again. A failed calibration often points to a sensor that is still not set properly.
Replace the sensor
If the voltage remains out of range after adjustment and all wiring and connections are confirmed to be in good condition, replace the faulty sensor.
