John Deere 102.16 – ECU: Intake Manifold Pressure Signal Moderately High / Boost Pressure Above Normal
Issue description
The engine's control system has detected that the intake manifold air pressure (boost pressure) is higher than the maximum operating limit for the current engine speed and load. This is often caused by a mismatch between the commanded boost and the actual reading, pointing to a faulty sensor, a wiring issue, or a mechanical overboost condition.

Check the cause
Inspect the front grill, air intake system, and air cleaner for any blockages (e.g., winter fronts, debris) that could disrupt proper airflow
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor for an open circuit in the ground wire or a short to a high-voltage source
With the key on but the engine not running, check the MAP sensor reading via a diagnostic tool (should match atmospheric pressure)
If the sensor is reading accurately, inspect the Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) actuator and linkage for sticking or failure (mechanical overboost)
Repair steps
Access the Sensor
Locate the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor on the engine's intake manifold.
Test the Circuit
Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify that the connector is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is good but the sensor fails the Key-ON/Engine-OFF atmospheric pressure test, remove the mounting hardware, pull the old sensor, and install a new OEM MAP sensor.
Address Mechanical Overboost
If the sensor is functioning properly, troubleshoot the turbocharger wastegate or VGT actuator. Free up any stuck linkages or replace the turbocharger actuator assembly if it is internally failed.
Clear Codes
Reconnect all components, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (or the TractorPlus app / CommandCenter display) to clear the ECU codes.
Test Run
Start the engine and run it under load to verify that the boost pressure remains within normal operating limits and the code does not return.
